Office of Educational Opportunity Programs - MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program

The MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program is a year-round, coeducational, multicultural college preparatory program for high school youth who reside in Cambridge, MA and attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS). The program serves students from low-income backgrounds and from families where parents have not had the opportunity to attend college and/or graduate with a 4-year college degree. The main goal of the program is to motivate participants to continue on to postsecondary education and become the first in their family to earn a college degree.

The academic year, after school, session operates on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from September through June. The six-week, residential, summer session takes place on the campus of Wellesley College from late June through early August. Transportation services are provided for students during the summer session only.

Applications from students in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades are accepted annually primarily from September 1st to December 15th. However, these current high school students may apply at any time throughout the year. Applications from students in the eighth grade are accepted annually from February 1st to May 15th.

All applicants are encouraged to complete and submit all materials in a timely manner to avoid delays in processing the applications. An interview and initial academic assessment are required as part of the application process.

Paid part-time Tutor positions and volunteer Tutor positions are available during the academic year. Paid full-time Teacher Assistant and Resident Assistant positions are available during the summer session. All summer staff must live in residence, therefore, room and board are provided during the operational periods of the summer session. Undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in helping to provide a rewarding educational experience for the students are encouraged to apply.
